Fishing

The Beaverdale School House is less than 15 minutes from Meaford Harbour on beautiful Georgian Bay. Know for some of the best fresh water fishing in the world, the Bay supports a huge variety of game fish from Northern Pike and Muskie to Walleye and Lake Trout. For a great day on the bay, book a charter from one of the numerous charter companies that operate out of Meaford Harbour. Nearby Lake Eugenia, near the town of Kimberley offers excellent Bass Fishing with a safe public launching area and swimming area.

Flyfishing

Two significant rivers in the area, the Beaver and the Big Head provide great flyfishing in the spring and fall for Steelhead and Brown Trout only minutes from the house. The renowned Bud Hoffman Flyfishing School out of the Beaver Valley, operates in the Spring (late April – June) with classes held right on the Beaver River.

Cycling

For the cycling enthusiast, the surrounding area provides the opportunity for fantastic day trips through some of the most fantastic countryside in the province. A trip through the Beaver Valley on Grey Road 13 is great or ride the Georgian Trail from Meaford to Collingwood along the shores of Georgian Bay on an old rail cut.

Short Mountain biking trails run down the abandoned sideroad adjacent to the property or challenge yourself to and all out 16km circuit at Massie Hills nearby.

Canoeing

The nearby Beaver River offers a beautiful 20 km paddle through the Beaver Valley that takes you through a sizable wetland with Beaver Dams en route to Thornbury. Numerous other rivers and wetlands in the area provide access to some remote and unchanged provincially significant wildlife areas.

Birding

While paddling or hiking take advantage of the excellent birding the Beaver Valley has to offer. Aside from the interesting species of small birds the Valley supports a large Vulture and wild Turkey population.

Hiking

Grey County is known as the hiking capitol of Ontario sporting thousands of miles of hiking trails in including the magnificent Bruce Trail that runs along the edge of Niagara Escarpment only minutes from the house. The section of the Bruce near Beaverdale is particularly scenic as it winds high along the escarpment over looking the Bay and in around the beautiful Beaver Valley.

Climbing

The Niagara Escarpment offers several challenging climbing opportunities in the Beaver Valley and in nearby Devils Glen. "Old Bawldy" situated above the town of Kimberly, 10 minutes from the house is most well known climb in the area.

Beaches

For the sun worshipers, the waters of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay offer the finest fresh water beaches in the world. Visit the famous Sauble Beach on the Lake Huron shores west of the Owen Sound or Christie Beach on Georgian Bay Off Hwy 26, west of Thornbury east of Meaford on Christie Beach Road.
