The ISO 9001 Measurement Process
Technology has made a big difference to the way that buildings are surveyed. High quality lasers have greatly improved accuracy. And now wireless connectivity to portable computers has helped us eliminate the need for note taking and all keyboard-based data entry and transcription.
But quality is not a product of technology alone. At Space Database we pay attention to how people work. Our surveying methodology is ISO 9001:2008 certified. The entire process is designed to ensure quality and accuracy. Here's a brief overview of how it works:
- Surveying: On site, our surveyors use laser measurement devices with Bluetooth wireless connections to send data directly to portable computers. They create scaled drawings of buildings without typing in dimensions.
- Polylining: Once a scaled drawing is created, the surveyor delineates various areas in the building according to the applicable standard. The surveyor does not need to calculate any areas at this point.
- Area Calculation: Once all of the drawings for the building have been 'polylined', our proprietary software scans through the drawings, calculates the areas as well as all of the relevant gross-up factors.
- Review: There are two parts of the review process. First check-sum calculations and other quality control steps are performed. Next, results are reviewed with the client to ensure conformance to expectations.
- Document Creation: Once approved, final drawings and area reports are created. Usable and rentable areas tables are automatically generated by the software before files are uploaded and made available to the client.
